Archives: Baseball spring training and release of F3 Hampton Roads Weather App

  • When:
  • QIC: Dreamliner
  • The PAX: Priorities, Screen Door, SpaceMonkey, SubMac, Dreamliner
  • Mumble chatter has abounded concerning the beautiful 75 and sunny (aka rainy, cold, and windy) weather this week.  This has not keep five grizzly PAX from posting each of the last two days.

SubMac, after completing his VQ at #DuckDuckGoose yesterday and posting for the first time at #BearCountry, mentioned that it would be nice to have an F3 Hampton Roads Weather App that predicted the weather at each AO (as we know 75 and sunny).  His request has been answered with a Beta version by the IT crew.

A few notes on the BETA version,

    • It has been configured solely for mobile use (does not display properly on full-size screens).
    • It has not been added to the Apple App Store or Google Play Store yet. However, PAX can add the URL to their home screen and the website will behave much like the apps we know and love.
    • The geocode address is specific to all AO locations (i.e., the app has the correct prediction for every AO). The prediction does not apply to your place of residence so you must post to the AO to experience the amazing weather.
    • The app accounts for expansion of the region with predictions on days that do not currently host F3 workouts.

    Now, on to the workout.

    The Thang:

Shortest warmarama to date. 30 side straddle hops (in cadence).

Bataan death march to the softball field.  This is much like the classic Indian Run with the back PAX performing 5 burpees before sprinting to front of group.

On softball field, complete F3 baseball.  120 team merkins at first, 120 team squats at second, 120 team crabcakes (in cadence) at third, and 120 team burpees at home.  YHC was extremely proud of the PAX for the perfectly executed counting scheme on the burpees.

Second lap around the bases was completed with reps cut in half and at your own pace.  Screen Door continues to push YHC on every workout.

Follow this by Field of Dreams.  PAX #1 starts at First Base and does AMRAP (as many reps as possible) merkins until relieved.  PAX #2 at Second Base does AMRAP squats until relieved. PAX #3 at Third Base does AMRAP LBC’s until relieved. PAX #4 at Home Plate performs 15 burpees then runs to First, relieving the PAX there.  Our 5th PAX for the morning was an additional runner.  Continued until all PAX had done the burpees.

Assemble at the mound for an intense manager/pitcher meeting.  The PAX did not want to give up the ball so YHC did not pull them from the game.  Fast-pitch softball lunges to home.  Catcher’s walk (stay in catcher’s stance) back to the mound.

Catcher’s jousting (aka duck jousting).  Duck jousting was created by Priorities and is now an officially recognized exercise on http://f3nation.com/exercises/.  Priorities out-strategized YHC by pulling away causing YHC to fall forward in the dirt.  The winner is still under replay review between Priorities and SubMac.  So much for baseball improving “pace of play.”

This baseball spring training themed workout was in honor of Scully Jr. (Chris Taylor Jr.) who is currently competing for a spot on the Los Angeles Dodgers.  Our resident weasel shaker (spreadsheeter), Priorities, informed all PAX that Chris is 11 of 22 (0.500 batting average) for 2017 spring training.  This has been independently confirmed by YHC.  For those not familiar with baseball, that is really good.

Mosey back to the flag for a full 7 minutes of Mary (abs): Captain Thor, ring of fire (flutter kicks x10), leg lift (x10) wave, Freddy Mercury’s x25 (IC).

    Circle of Trust (COT):

YHC’s connect group is working through Crazy Love by Francis Chan.  In the first chapter, he discusses the magnitude of God.  We can catch a glimpse of this in the nature around us.  YHC discussed his failure to do this on a regular basis when his father asked if the Azaleas had started to bloom in Hampton Roads, VA.  YHC’s answer, “I have no idea. I have not really been paying attention.”  SpaceMonkey followed this with an excerpt from some appropriate verses (Matthew 6:25-34).

25“For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26“Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they? 27“And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life? 28“And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin, 29yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. 30“But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith! 31“Do not worry then, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear for clothing?’ 32“For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. 34“So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

SubMac suggested the PAX repeat “Aye!” back to the Q after his rant to remove the sometimes awkward silence that follows.  Let’s get that started right away.

Closed out with Ball of Man.
