  • When:
  • QIC: Screen Door
  • The PAX: Dreamliner, 3 For 1, Walk On, Priorities, Space Monkey, SubMac, Screen Door
  • A whopping 7 PAX members came out to #BearCountry to participate in Copernican themed workout.  Special shout out to 3 For 1 for making the early morning trip from VA Beach and coming in hot!

According to This Day in History, May 24th is the anniversary of Copernicus’ death, and as such that was the theme of the day.  Here’s how it went:

Warmup: 2 Burpees, 19 SSH, 14 Merkins, 73 Shoulder Circles (Copernicus was born on 19 Feb 1473)

The Thang: Copernicus is best known for his heliocentric model of the solar system (sun-centered rather than earth-centered). This led to nine workout stations, one for each planet if you include Pluto, which our resident NASA employees quickly informed me was incorrect.  Anyway, each station was done in a four middles (as opposed to four corners) style going around the parking lot.  MERCURY: alternating quick feet and high knees every 15 seconds for 2 minutes. VENUS: tunnel of love (down and back). EARTH: Mountain climbers (a set of 20 and a set of 10 in cadence). MARS: Bear crawls three lengths of the short side of the parking lot (closest thing I could get to approximate a Mars Rover).  JUPITER: Lunge walks in a circle around a tree for 2 minutes (simulating the rotation of the big red spot). SATURN: Ring of fire with 10 four-count flutter kicks while remaining PAX do LBCs. URANUS: 1 minute of squats, 1 minute of gas pumps. NEPTUNE: 10 Starjack burpees. PLUTO: 40 Little Baby Crunches for the little baby planet.

Back to the flags for 5 Burpees, 24 SSH, 15 Merkins, 43 Shoulder Circles (Copernicus died on 24 May 1543)

Mary: 15 Crunchy Frogs, 10 Hello Dollies, 15 Freddy Mercuries, 10 Box Cutters.

COT: Counterama and Namerama (which YHC royally botched. I was trying to memorize all the PAX members that were there and forgot to pay attention to namerama, so when it came my turn, I started reciting the rest of the PAX members’ names rather than saying my own F3 name which made it look like I was claiming to be Dreamliner.  Certainly everyone’s aspiration, but definitely made for some confusion and a bit of awkwardness on my part.)  Moving on to the thought of the week: Copernicus is famous for publicizing the theory that the planets revolve around the sun, which was counter to the then popular and religious belief that the earth was at the center of the solar system.  My spin on this is that we should strive to keep ourselves from being the center of our own universes.  God should be the center and if he is not, we are doing something wrong.  We should be making an effort to keep God at the center even when that is not the popular or accepted thing to do.

    BOM to close it out.

NMM: Lots of announcements this week.  Be sure to check all of the various media for more details, but the short list is as follows: Speed for Need, Wednesday morning Bible study, Tough Mudder, VQ Week, and the return of Lady Glittersparkle!

    Screen Door (Not Dreamliner!) out.
