Deflator’s second Q had a baseball theme in honor of Major League Baseball opening day across the country. Unfortunately there was a threat of severe weather that added to the Gloom. Fortunately, that weather missed our immediate area and F3 convened. Unfortunately, only Dreamliner and Deflator were able to make it, which is also fortunate now that I think about it….moving on…
We started with three warmup exercises: side straddle hops, windmills (don quixotes), and super mans (to simulate we were “sliding into home”). We then went for a Mixed Up Mosey looking like major leaguers warming up, where we ran around the lake and switched between running forward, backwards, left side to, and right side to. It was more challenging than I expected, perhaps because I was still recovering from Triple Option’s epic beat down on Tuesday.
We then set up cones into a baseball diamond and did various circuits, with stops at each base to do exercises like merkins, squats, burpees, and lbc’s, and while either running, bear crawling, crab crawling, or lunging between bases. Again, more difficult than I had envisioned. This was us mostly prototyping combos for when we get additional PAX in a future workout, so standby for a well engineered Beat Down!
To conclude my baseball themed workout, I offered the following quote from Major Leaguer Bob Feller: “Every day is a new opportunity. You can build on yesterday’s success or put its failures behind and start over again. That’s the way life is, with a new game every day, and that’s the way baseball is.” Feller played 18 years in the majors, interrupted by 4 years of voluntary service in the Navy during WWII. He did basic training at Naval Base Norfolk, too. Fascinating connections, and good words to consider as we face each new day in our lives.
