Gents, we are just over 2 weeks away from a great opportunity to demonstrate how impactful we can be. Speed for Need will be traveling from Charlotte, NC to Virginia Beach, VA for a 5K sponsored by Surfers Healing on August 18. The event will benefit the Autism Society, Tidewater Chapter and Surfers Healing, an organization that has been bringing children with autism to the ocean. Here’s the thing, we need more PAX for this event … no sugar to coat this. Fellas, we have an opportunity to use our somewhat “able” bodies to provide those who deal with disabilities, daily, to participate in something that they wouldn’t be able to do otherwise.
Alright, elevator speech over. Let’s talk details here. What is this “Speed for Need” thing all about? Check out this link to learn more about how they got started. These guys, fellow F3’ers, started this group to provide opportunities for people with disabilities to participate in local races across the F3 nation. Here is a recent race they did in Charlotte. The people in the chairs (chariots) are called track commanders. The Speed for Need folks travel to regions and partner with the local PAX to make sure that these track commanders have a transcendental experience.
So, the event will occur at 7:30 AM at the 4th St. Oceanfront Boardwalk. We have 3 chairs coming. Each chair needs 3 PAX, one to run, one to clear the way, and one to sub-in if the primary runner needs a breather. Doing some complex math, 3 chairs times 3 PAX … beep … boop … beep … 9 PAX. We need at least an additional PAX to run Audio/Video during the event. Minimum 10 PAX. If there is one thing F3 is not good at, it is settling for the minimum. My goal, 15. We need to make sure that these people literally feel how impactful and present F3 is in their community. All PAX will need to be there at 6:30 AM. Track commanders and their families will need to be there about 45 minutes early. We are joining Ainsley’s Angels for race logistics. They will be coordinating with the race coordinators about starting early and where to prep for the race. Bring your family or have them meet you at the race. After we have hustled our track commanders across the finish line, we are going to raid the beach. Our chiseled forms will likely cause the sand to melt, so it could be a bit slippery, we will manage though.
Guys, we need to be there. You can register here. Make sure that you sign up as participating with Team Hoyt/Ainsley’s Angels so that you are populated on their roster. Let me know if you have any questions and let me know when you register. The next step will be to start getting our chair teams together.
