The Thang:  We started with 3 laps around the pond. On the first lap we did the Black Snake, like an an Indian Run, but the last guy has to weave his way through the Pax to the front of the line. On lap 2, we went back to this AO’s bread and butter- Bear Crawling the bridge. And on lap 3, we sprinted around the bridge.

After moseying back to the flags, we did a set of Elevens (OYO). The two exercises were The Lion King and Scorpion Dry Docks. For The Lion King, you start with a coupon tight to your chest. Move into the low squat position and lower the coupon between your knees. Coming up out of the squat raise the coupon high above your head thrusting it upward so that it is weightless for a fraction of second. Think Simba being presented in the Lion King. At 1 it’s nothin’ but at 10, we were hurtin’! Shout out to Dreamliner for bringing the weights! For the Scorpion Dry Docks, it’s like a Carolina Dry Dock but with one leg hoisted in the air higher than your 6.

After moseying to the picnic tables, we partnered up and did 60 Dips, 10 at a time before switching, while the other guy held the dip position. Then 60 Derkins, 10 at a time before switching, while the other guy held a wall sit position. Then we moseyed back to the weights for the Ring of Fire. We did 10 Tricep Extensions each with the coupon (IC), followed by some Dealer’s Choice (each pax leading 10 reps of any kind with coupon IC).

We closed it out with some ab workouts. It was our first time to try Not-So Lazy Boys (on your six sitting upright with your legs straight out in front of you. Cross your arms and grab your sides, leaning back in your “Lazy Boy” as far as you can without your feet coming off the ground. Hold and engage your core for 10-15 seconds and rotate to your right, dropping your right elbow towards the ground (not letting it touch the ground), back to the middle (hold for 10-15 seconds, core still engaged) and then rotate over to your left, dropping your left elbow towards the ground (not letting it touch the ground). It turned out to be much harder than I anticipated. Our last exercise was World War I sit-ups (Starting on your six with arms fully extended above your head and legs straight, raise your upper body keeping your arms straight above your head until you are upright then bring your arms as far forward trying to touch your toes. Then return to starting position flat on ground.) We added a variation on our last set, putting our legs straight up in the air. If anyone knows the technical term for that exercise, please let us know!

    Circle of Trust:

Jacob, the father of the twelve tribes of Israel, was going back to his original home. When he moved away, his relationship with his brother was in ruin. Now, he was going back to see his brother again. He was worried, anxious, and stressed. But on his journey, in the middle of his tough situation, he prayed “I am not worthy of the least of all the deeds of steadfast love and all the faithfulness that you have shown your servant… (Genesis 32:10). King David actually did something similar. In Psalm 13 he was worried and felt like God wasn’t hearing his prayers. But at the end he remembers God’s “steadfast love” and says God has been good to him. Here’s my point: When you’re worried about the future, relationships, work, finances, etc. imitate Jacob and David. So often we just focus on our problem. But like Jacob and David, we need to remind ourselves again and again of God’s love, faithfulness, and goodness to us. If your struggling to find things in your life that are evidence of His love and goodness, just remember that while we were sinners, Christ died for us–for you.

When I think of that, Jacob’s words become my own– I am not worthy of the least of all the deeds of steadfast love and faithfulness God has shown me. In the middle of the madness this week, don’t forget God’s love and faithfulness in Christ. Face the day’s challenges remembering that for you and for me, He’s the Lion who crushed the Snake.
